The Professional Services for Mr. Theard are Hereby Announced.

Mr. Emile Theard, Sr. transitioned from this life on Friday, March 10, 2023. Mr. Emile Theard, Sr. was born to Dora Jones and Junius Theard on March 5th, 1934 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Coincidentally, Mr. Emile and his mother bore the same birthday.

Mr. Emile grew up attending church regularly as a child. He recently recited lines to me from a church play in which he participated at age 12. He said rehearsals were every Saturday afternoon.  Mr. Emile attended St. David Catholic Church in New Orleans at times during his life. The high light was when Mr. Emile accepted Christ at the Upper Room Bible Church during a reenactment of the play “Heaven’s Gates and Hell’s Flames” that was performed by his daughter Angela Toney and his grandson, Austin Hill. Mr. Emile has been a faithful member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Slidell, LA under the leadership of the Reverend Leonard Craft. Mr. Emile took great pride in coordinating his outfit on Saturday nights in preparation for the Sunday Morning Services.

Mr. Emile attended McCarthy Elementary School on Claiborne Street, New Orleans. He graduated from Walter L. Cohen Senior High School, New Orleans. Soon after high school, Mr. Emile enlisted in the United States Army. He was trained as an automobile mechanic. This skill was a benefit throughout his life. Mr. Emile spent part of his tour in Germany. There he became fluent in the language. Recently, Mr. Emile held a conversation in German as Cheryl tucked him in bed.

Mr. Emile returned to the United States. His Army tour was over, and he was honorably discharged.

Mr. Emile, married Dosia Stewart, and to this union a baby girl named Joycelyn Theard was born. Unfortunately, the marriage failed. Later, Mr. Emile attended Straight Business School; he attended the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA), where he was smitten by Elsie Mae Robinson. They courted, married, and their union was blessed with three children: Cheryl, Angela, and Emile, Jr. Mr. Emile was trained, and he dabbled in numerous career fields. All of which were building blocks he used the rest of his life. Mr. Emile worked in the Broadmore Bakery; food warehouse, New Orleans Disposal, J. M. Tull Metal Company, and he retired from AAA Cooper Freight Line where he worked for 25 years.

He worked in a bakery where he really learned his way around the oven. His specialties were Fruit Cakes, Flavored Pound Cakes, and Pineapple Upside Down Cakes. Photography was a hobby of his that turned into a profession. He joined the team at Wilfred Dennis Photography Company. He photographed countless weddings, school groups, club groups, and families. Mr. Emile loved fishing. He was a member of the Fishing 15, Inc Club for over 30 years. There he served as president and business manager. Mr. Emile was a Mason- Prince Hall Freemasonry under leadership of the late Mr. William Harris. Mr. Emile loved Football and took pride in his appearance. His favorite shopping stores were Zolers and Rubinstein Bros. He was the “Master of Remote Controls” wherever he went. Mr. Emile loved to travel.

Mr. Theard leaves to cherish his loving memories: his loving and devoted wife, Elsie R. Theard of the home; his children, Charles Rosen, Joycelyn Theard, Cheryl Theard Holden (Alvin), Angela Theard Toney (Shelby), late Emile Theard, Jr. (Sonia); his grandchildren, Monique Walker, Alvin K. Holden, III, Cherhonda Holden, LaTisha Holden Palmer, Jason Theard, Sr., Austin A. Hill, Domonique Toney; his great grandchildren, Zuriel J. Thomas; Nicolette J. Palmer, Norri M. Dad’s Favorite Sayings:

-If you asked him a question, his response would be, if I tell you that, you’re going to know more than me and I’ll have to shoot you in your pinkie toe.

-Dad, what you getting me for Christmas?  Close your eyes and tell me what you see.

-You’re not going bald, you just have more face.

-Dad got new Hearing Aids. He said, “Oh boy these things work so good, I can hear what you’re thinking.

-Cheryl would tell Dad she was coming home. He’d say, “I’ll be looking forward to it.”

-Whenever, Dad pretended to foresee something, he would say he knew because he had ESPN (Not ESP- Extra Sensory Perception)

-When folks admired Dad’s hazel eyes, he would say, “ Yes, they came with the face.”
