Geneva Weathersby Clay was born on March 23, 1942 to the late Davie and Julia Weathersby. She departed this life on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, Louisiana.

At an early age, she attended Oak Grove Baptist Church in Genesse, Louisiana; under the leadership of Rev. J. C. Perkins of Tickfaw, Louisiana. Later she married Johnny Smith on August 23, 1957 and to this union five children were born. She and Johnny Smith divorced and afterwards she moved to Benton Harbor, Michigan. She attended the Saints of Jesus Christ Church under the leadership of Bishop John Weathersby in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Some years later she met John Clay and they united Holy Matrimony and later he passed away. She moved back to Louisiana in the 80’s. She worked at a factory and also loved to fish.

Geneva leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Marie Smith and Isabella Smith; one son, Johnny Smith and a grandson whom she raised Vital Smith; two sisters, Minister Annie Johnson of Tickfaw, Louisiana and Mamie Weatherspoon of Hammond Louisiana; one brother, Bishop John Weathersby and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Davie and Julia Weathersby; one sister, Alma Jones; three brothers, Mitchell Minor, Dewitt Weathersby and David Weathersby; one son, Roosevelt (Sonny) Smith and one daughter, Vivian Smith-Allen.
