And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed
Are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit,
That they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.
~Revelation 14:13~
Harris Hayes, Sr. came into this world on September 5, 1947 in Liberty, Mississippi to the late Willie and Sarah Hayes. He was affectionately called “Rev” or “H’s”. He made his triumphant transition to glory on November 25, 2024 at 2:40 p.m. with his eyes looking toward Heaven. Assuredly, the angels rejoiced at his arrival.
He was baptized at the age of eleven at the Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church in Mississippi. For seventeen years, he lifted up the word of Jesus by singing the gospel as a member of the Sensational Jordan Singers. He was called to preach in May of 1980 at the Friendship Baptist Church, pastored by the late Rev. Louis Griffins.
Bishop Hayes was ordained on February 15, 1982, by the Moderator, Rev. J. Chambers. He then organized the Good Shepherd Baptist Church and was the pastor of Saint Paul Baptist Church of Lottie, Louisiana and later pastored Ebenezer Baptist Church and Little Rock Baptist Church of Slaughter, Louisiana for many years. He is also the founder and presiding Bishop of the National Holy Trinity Baptist Fellowship Association. “Go ye unto all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature.” He is the creator and Executive Producer of the Good Shepherd Television Ministry. Bishop Hayes was a shepherd to his flock and preached the word of Jesus Christ. He released three gospel albums: “I’ve Got Jesus”, “Just a Little More Time” and “Grace and Constellation”. He trusted God completely and listened daily for God’s instructions. He was selfless, lived to please God and tried to allow God to order his steps. He was a great example of a man that followed God, and there is no doubt his legacy followed him to Heaven
In March of 1983, Bishop met and married his soul mate, Lady Joyce Nevills and to this union together, they have two children: Alexis Elizabeth and Aaron Harris Hayes. Harris was a jack of all trades and a master of many. He was a Master Mason. He was a retired Kansas City railroad brakeman. He was a man of many talents and accomplishments.
He leaves to cherish his many memories: his devoted and loving wife of forty-three years, Joyce Lynn Hayes; six children, Alexis Hayes, Aaron (Yolanda) Hayes, Reginald (Jamie) Hayes; Joyce (Kelvin) Brown, Lisa (Brad) Smothers and Denise (Joseph) Ard; twenty-three grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; eight sisters, Gwendolyn (Ronald) Wells, Minister Flossie Dawson, Sadie Reese, Mary Weathersby, Pearl (Kelvin) Canty, Joyce (Howard) Chambers, Willie Pearl (Walter) Ard, and Nancy Butler and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Harris was preceded in death by his parents Willie and Sarah Hayes and a son, Harris Hayes, Jr.
