Ray Anthony Phillips

June 3, 1959 — October 30, 2024

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the Faith: 

 henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, 

 the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only,

 but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Ray Anthony Phillips was born on January 3, 1959 to the late Willie Mae Phillips and Johnny Williams. He was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and a long time resident of Zion City. 

 Ray was baptized at an early age under the late Rev. Emmit Spurlock. He worked at Apatache Industrial Coating as a laborer. Ray was known for his unique skills of using his hands which lead him to a career path where he wan Amateur Boxer, becoming a Golden Globe holder, and a youth neighborhood boxing. He was a coach at Cadillac Street Center where he trained many children to box. He was also very well known to many authoritative figures in the prison system. 

“Solider” as he was affectionately called by his family and friends departed his life on Wednesday, October 30, 2024. He was preceded in death by both his biological parents, Willie Mae Phillips and Johnny Williams, one sister Shenetta Renae Phillips; grandmother, Emma Lee Phillips; two aunts, Emma Jean Gibson and Barbara Ann Mitchell; three uncles, Marvin Mitchell, Dave Mitchell and Terry Williams. 

 He leaves behind to cheirhs his loving memories, four aunts, Rosaline Phillips, Agnes Spears, Jerry Rodriquez and Carrie Williams all of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; one niece, Neonosha Phillips; fwo nephews, Quantez (Selena) Phillips and Jamal (Jameela) Phillips; one God son, Rico Veals; one God sister, Lisa Thomas and a host great nieces, nephews, cousin and special friends.
